kindergarten johnny appleseed day

Kindergarten loves Johnny Appleseed Day!

Throughout the month of September, we have been learning about apples. Our dramatic play stand for this month is an apple orchard! Students have loved pretending to pick apples, be customers and cashiers buying and selling applesauce, apple cider, apple pies, and different color apples. They also have a kitchen in the orchard where they can pretend to make pies, applesauce, and cider!

Today, we read a book about John Chapman and talked about who Johnny Appleseed was and what he did.

We made our very own Johnny Appleseed hats with a pot just like he did.

We tried three different types of apples: red delicious, Granny Smith, and golden delicious. Students received an apple to color and colored it like the one that was their favorite. Then, we made a graph to show what the favorites were.

We read and colored a book about Johnny Appleseed before making our very own apple pie cups.

Students took turns crumbling graham crackers in a bag. Once we had our “crust”, we put yummy apple pie filling on top of that. We finished our pie off with whipped cream and sprinkles. Apple juice was a great compliment to the apple pie!

In science, we are learning about 5 senses. We talked about the senses we used when we were trying the different apples earlier and made a chart to go along with it.

It was a day filled with learning and lots of apples! ❤️
