Emallee and her parents holding her plaque

This summer Emalee Mann was selected to attend the Washington Youth Tour sponsored by South Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives. She was sent to Washington, D.C. by Little River Electric Cooperative for the trip of a lifetime! Emalee and the other selected students from cooperatives across the state visited some of the nation’s most historic monuments, museums, and locations. The students ran their own cooperative and met many national leaders. She was given the opportunity to apply for and was awarded the R.D. Bennett Scholarship. Over the summer, she completed a service project called “Boxes and Bottles of Blessings.” With the help of her church, area schools, businesses, and local community, she raised money for United Christian Ministries of Abbeville County, collected over a thousand cans for the Lowndesville Food Pantry, and gained supplies for Bottles of Blessings which contained UCMAC information, Library Card Instructions, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other items for local school students! Both the Washington Youth Tour and completion of the service project were wonderful experiences that taught Emalee about herself, her nation, and her community! A big thanks to Little River Electric Cooperative and the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina!
