Abbeville County School District (ACSD) is excited to hold in-person graduation for our seniors in the AHS and DHS football stadiums. ACSD will be following the guidelines suggested by the South Carolina State Department of Education (SCDE), the Governor's Executive Orders, and others. We are asking the public to support the District by following the procedures put in place to ensure the safety of all in attendance. All graduating seniors will be given guidelines for the graduation ceremony specific to their school. We encourage attendees to please read over these carefully before the ceremony. Guests will be instructed on the time gates open, where to park, where to enter and exit, etc. We will provide live-streaming of the ceremonies. DHS will hold graduation May 28, 2020 at 6:00 PM. The rain date will be May 30, 2020 at 6:00 PM. After conferring with Abbeville Area Medical Center on the expected dates for the peak number of positive COVID-19 cases for Abbeville County and following the suggested guidelines set forth by the SCDE, the District is limiting the number of guests to 2 persons per graduate. Tickets will be required for entry. Guests will be required to maintain social distancing of 6 feet while on school campus. No one will be allowed to congregate in parking lots before and after the ceremony. All guests are encouraged to wear masks. Spectators without tickets will not be allowed on campus.

Per State Superintendent Molly Spearman, schools will remain closed for the rest of the year. More details will be forthcoming about procedures for turning in instructional packets, returning devices and textbooks, and gathering items from lockers. Please understand, just because we are not returning for face-to-face instruction does not mean instruction stops for this school year. We remain committed to having students ready for the next grade, course, or next steps post-graduation. Stay tuned for more information in the coming days and stay safe!

Let's Go Exploring
An announcement was made this afternoon by Governor McMaster and State Superintendent, Molly Spearman, that SC schools will be closed through April 30. Should this timeline need to be adjusted by ending sooner or by being extended, an announcement will be made at that time. ACSD was braced for the announcement of a school closing extension as a result of the daily SCDE and State Superintendent briefings provided to district superintendents. With other decisions being made in our state and those in states like NC, it seemed to be a matter of time. I do think it gives our students, especially our seniors, a window of hope that the school closure through April 30 will have helped to flatten the curve and the month of May will usher in the possibilities of returning to school, holding prom and graduation, etc. although there are still no guarantees. ACSD is busy preparing for the second wave of providing instructional packets and eLearning plans for students. We stand ready to provide the best services possible to our students at this time. We are currently awaiting guidance from the SCDE on decisions governing some instructional components and will share and implement these once received. Our focus is on what students have already been taught and what they need between now and the end of the year in order to be prepared for the next grade level or course content in a sequence or for graduation. - Dr. Julie Fowler, ACSD Superintendent

Breakfast and lunch will continue to be available each day at CTE, DHE, JCCE, and WMS from 8:30-9:30 AM and 12:30-1:30 PM. Beginning Wednesday, March 18, breakfast and lunch will be delivered to all bus riders where students are dropped off each afternoon. Routes will leave their respective schools at 12:30 each day. Meals may be delivered a little later than a student typically arrives at the bus stop. For example, on regular school days, if a student leaves his/her school at 3:00 PM and arrives at the bus stop at 3:40, this student/parent needs to be at the bus stop at 1:10 PM to receive a meal. Please give drivers a little extra time for the first few days of delivery.
